Edisto: In Retrospect

For once, Mapquest was dead on. We arrived in Edisto Beach, SC at 3:30pm and it was beautiful. No chain restaurants cluttering the drive, no gaudy neon advertising monstrosities, and a house that slept 10-15 people was what we were greeted with. We sat on a deck facing the ocean which had a staircase that descended directly to the beach. Staggered arrivals found all parties enjoying cold beer and stories by 4:30pm and questions about what to do for dinner by 5:30pm. Two pizzas, some wings, and a handful of chicken fingers later the young adults were getting restless about the SABTOC .

Long story short...I won that bitch. I am the champion.

Til next year

Beirut: Edisto Style

My wife asked me a couple of days ago if we needed to pack a swimsuit for our trip to Edisto, SC this weekend. There's a beach, sand, ocean...all things that seem a prerequisite for packing a suit, but most of the action that will go down will likely be the fierce competition of beirut in search of the pewter platter prize: the (still to be named) Cup.

According to legend, the (still to be named) Cup is an amalgamation of many other tournament trophies that Robb Calhoun was awarded, nay, honored with in his glorious victories across the world. Upon returning from his global domination, he felt sad and empty although he had won so many trophies. Soon, an idea came to him. Using his formal training in metallurgy and blacksmithing, Robb irreverently melted down the trophies he had won and formed the (still to be named) Cup...the Championship of beirut championships.

Defending champion Robb Calhoun defeated his only brother, Jake in a dogfight that lasted 12 hours in the FABTOC (First Annual Beirut Tournament of Champions). After many successful redemptions, reracks, spinouts, and controversy, Robb held the cup victorious and the brothers shook hands in the name of sportsmanship. This time, in the SABTOC, Robb will have to hold and maintain his title against a larger field of opponents. Also, he will have to beware of his notorious "elbow violations".

As the competition nears, more information will be available as to who will be participating in the SABTOC. Preliminary reports indicate that the Robert and Polly will attend, as well as Jake and Lindsay, and Brad and his new girlfriend as well as Robb and Libby and of course, Mike and Susan.
